Flint YWCA celebrating international Day of the Girl with event that aims to empower
The YWCA in Flint is hosting an EmpowHER Day of the Girl Celebration to recognize the international holiday. The event is set to include keynote speakers, panel discussions, networking & mentorship opportunities, community resources and interactive empowerment experiences.

Genesee County middle school & high school girls along with a guardian are able to attend the free event. The event is set to take place on Sept. 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Mott Community College Event Center.
YWCA of Greater Flint gets $25,000 for abuse survivors
FLINT, Mich. (WJRT) - The city of Flint gave $25,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act fund to the YWCA of Greater Flint on Thursday to support domestic abuse and sexual assault survivors.
DeAndra Larkin, the YWCA's CEO, said the funds will go toward programming for survivors of domestic violence and sexual violence. The money will provide advocacy support, shelter, and resources for those in need.
The YWCA received funding from Flint's $94.7 million allocation under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. The act was signed into law by former President Joe Biden to combat the national public health and economic impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.

FLINT, Mich. - The YWCA of Greater Flint held its biggest fundraising event of the year on Wednesday. The nonprofit runs a safehouse shelter for victims of domestic violence, among other programs to help those in need.
The YWCA’s annual Circle Lunch took place at the Genesys Banquet & Conference Center in Grand Blanc.

This year’s event aimed to raise critical funds to support survivors of intimate domestic and sexual assault and empower our community through education, advocacy, and prevention efforts. Two local survivors of domestic violence shared their journeys of courage, healing, and resilience.
