The most important thing to do within the first 120 hours (5 days) is to receive immediate medical attention, if you have been assaulted. You may need treatment and additional care for injuries, possibilty of pregnancy and contracting sexually transmitted infections.
The YWCA of Greater Flint, provides comprehensive, timely, and sensitive rape exams (officially known as medical-forensic examinations).With patient consent, evidence is collected and documented by a specially trained, forensic nurse examiner in a supportive private environment. A victim advocate who offers emotional support and information is part of this response as well. Exams are performed at the YWCA of Greater Flint on a 24-hour, on-call bases for adults, and all genders. To arrange for an exam, contact our emergency line (810) 238-7233. We can also provide referrals for follow-up medical care and counseling.
A victim advocate is someone who offers emotional support and information for each survivor. Victim advocates are able to help through a phone call, an email, an appointments and/or a walk-in. Walk-in appointment hours are; Monday-Friday 8 am- 5 pm. Emailing and calling for a victim advocate is 24/7.
