SEXUAL ASSAULT

wHAT IS SEXUAL ASSAULT? 

Sexual assault includes a wide range of victimization, distinct from rape or attempted rape. These crimes include completed or attempted assaults generally involving unwanted or non-consensual sexual contact between the victim and offender. Sexual assaults may or may not involve physical force and can include such things as grabbing or fondling. Sexual assault can also include verbal threats.

Advocacy 

A victim advocate is someone who offers support regarding the civil and criminal justice system. Victim advocates are able to assist with Personal Protection Orders (PPO).

RAPE exam

The YWCA Greater Flint, provides comprehensive, timely, and sensitive rape exams (officially known as medical-forensic examinations).With patient consent, evidence is collected and documented by a specially trained, forensic nurse examiner (SANE-Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner).  In a supportive private environment, known as our SAFE Center. An advocate who offers emotional support and information is part of this response as well.

Exams are performed at the YWCA Greater Flint/SAFE Center on a 24-hour, on-call bases for adults, and all genders.  To arrange for an exam, contact our emergency line (810) 238-7233, walk-ins are welcomed. We can also provide referrals for follow-up medical care and counseling.
