SART FACTS

mission

​The Genesee County Sexual Assault Response Team will empower, support and promote healing, in a victim-centered, trauma informed way to all racial, social, religious, and economic groups, ages, gender, disabilities, lifestyles, or sexual orientation who are victims of sexual assault by ensuring they are provided with a competent, consistent, and sensitive multidisciplinary response.

goal

​The goal of SART is to achieve a coordinated response on sexual assault in our community.  This includes the process of intervention and the process on how communities respond to sexual assault.

participating AGENCIES

​Genesee County SART is comprised of many community partners to ensure that victims of sexual assault receive the best care.  These agencies include; YWCA Greater Flint, Voices for Children, Genesee County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan State Police, City of Flint Police Department, Genesee County Association of Chiefs of Police, Genesee County Prosecutors office, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Hurley Medical Center, Genesys Hospital and McLaren Hospital, SANE nurses, University of Michigan Flint, Kettering University, and Richfield Township Police Department.

outcomes

​FY 2019-2020
Outcomes for this upcoming year include conducting 12 trainings to increase awareness on the protocol; obtain feedback from survivors; participate in 4 community outreach events; survey SART team members regarding overall effectiveness; and increase participating agencies with SART by 9.

accomplishments

In January of 2019 YWCA Greater Flint received funding for a full time position as SART Coordinator to assist with coordination and growth of the SART team.  The SART team worked on developing a protocol related to sexual assault response with 5 key areas that included: advocacy, prosecution, law enforcement, SANE and incarcerated individuals.  The protocol was signed into effect for Genesee County in July of 2019. 
The next steps identify by SART to continue expanding the protocol includes addressing trauma informed care for sexual assault victims, cultural competency, special populations, and PREA (Prison, Rape, Elimination Act).
